Further artist research for major project

http://antonymicallef.com/

Antony Micallef is a British contemporary fine artist. His account popped in my Intagram and I instantly started searching about him and his works because they are very expressive and unique, he uses a very interesting technique which I have never seen before. He portrays people with different colours but without defining features. The works look the same yet they are all different, they express different emotions and reveals the emotions of a portrayed person I think. The works below are from 2015-2017

Prior works are quite different in terms of colours and the concept of work probably because of difference in age and viewpoints. These works are from 2011-2014, back then he used more softer looks but still he stuck to people and the expression of feelings in works

2009-2011: In all his works during this period of time he used very dark colours, I think he experienced bad time because it is clearly seen that he wanted to send this message through his works of suffer and pain.

http://francis-bacon.com/ Francis Bacon is the next artist that I looked at, also a very expressive in terms of emotions of a person, I find similarities with Antony's works, very emotional and bold. His works are abstracted, involving isolated figures of people in geometrical cages

He also presents many sequences, particularly focusing only on a figure. I think that all his works has deep meaning. The more so, his website is very easy to navigate and all the work is very sorted.

As for the website of this artist, it is not the best one that I have seen. He has a lot of information, it is quite hard to navigate, there are too many photographs displayed on the home page. The thing that I liked on his website is that he enables the viewers to customise the language and provides many different varieties:

  • English
  • Deutsch
  • Français
  • Italiano
  • 中文
  •   I think that is a very good approach, even though nowadays English is considered to be a universal language he preferred for his website to be approachable for everyone else around the world. Anyway, he present great work especially, overpainted photographs, they are very inspirational.

In his photographs he uses different colour of paint. They look nice, though they are all colourful they still present thew same concept.

    Reflection

This research helped me a lot, now I have more ideas on how to make my project more interesting and professional looking. In addition, I learned more about the features of websites of the artists that I have looked at and know what I should and should not include in my own website.
